Heritage Food of the Peranakan Indians: In A Chitty Melaka Kitchen

Published by The Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association in 2024, this is our community cookbook, Heritage Food of the Peranakan Indians: In A Chitty Melaka Kitchen. This book has been a labour of love featuring close to 100 Peranakan Indian recipes, ranging from everyday dishes to festive fare, featuring appetisers to mains to drinks and desserts. Each recipe is inspired by the skills and stories of different members of our community. Using the collective voice of Nenek, an affectionate term for grandmother, we hope to have captured the warmth of a typical Chitty Melaka kitchen. This cookbook is also an invitation for you to savour the flavours of our small and distinctive Peranakan Indians or Chitty Melaka community. We are probably the oldest community in Singapore and Malaysia to have evolved from mixed parentage. That diversity over time, developed into a unique identity that combines and balances multiracial, multicultural and multilingual realities with ease and pride, is evident from our food. Mari makan…
