Hati Kampong Chorus

Origin

Hati Kampong Chorus was formed in August 2025 in support of a collaborative project marking International Migrants Day. Under the guidance of Baba Richard Tan and vocal coach, RHAUN, the choir gathered faithfully every Sunday, culminating in a public debut just four months later.

Who They Are

Its members are as vibrant and diverse as the kebayas they wear. Peranakan Indians (Chitty Melaka) sing alongside friends from many communities, including Singaporean Chinese, Malay, and Filipino voices — each contributing their own colour and cadence to the chorus. The Chorus also features the dynamic duo of Tini and Rahim, entertainers in their own right, who through lively storytelling, offer audiences a glimpse into a rich and distinctive way of life.

In the various iterations, Tini plays the Chitty Melaka characters Ayesha or Meenachi while Rahim plays the migrant Arjun or Samy characters.

The Name

The name Hati Kampong Chorus resonates deeply with its members. Hati, meaning heart, reflects care, sincerity, and passion. Kampong evokes the spirit of a close-knit village — one rooted in mutual support and shared celebration. Together, the name embodies a chorus grounded not only in music, but in belonging, warmth, and shared humanity.
